Alistair Bain – Senior Minister
Alistair was born and raised in Launceston and moved to Hobart in 1991 to do an Arts/Law degree. It was while in Hobart, and while attending St Johns, that he began to understand the gospel of Jesus for what seemed like the first time.
After finishing his degree he returned to Launceston and worked for 7 years as a lawyer. But in 2005, with his wife Rachel and their young daughter, Alistair moved to Sydney to undertake an M.Div at Sydney Missionary and Bible College. It was while in Sydney that their 2 sons were born.
Alistair moved to Hobart in February 2011, 20 years after he first moved here as a student.
Alistair is the Presbyterian Chaplain and a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee at the University of Tasmania.
He relaxes by gardening, reading, drinking coffee in Hobart’s many fabulous cafes, cooking the occasional curry, going to the movies with Rachel, and coaching the local under 12 boys soccer team.
Nick Rabe – Assistant to the Minister
Nick is a Hobart boy who in 2003 at age 18 chased a girl to church and once he heard the gospel he never left. That church was St. John’s and he’s still here.
Now married to wife Kiri (not the girl he was chasing back in 2003) with three young sons, and a Business degree, Nick supports the ministry of St. John’s in an administrative and organisational role, sharing news and stories within the church, organising and promoting events and encouraging others to get involved in the life of the church.
When not working at St. John’s, Nick is an Advertising Account Manager with a local TV & radio station… And when not doing that he enjoys road trips with his family, strategy board games, nerdy tech stuff, building furniture and binge watching a good quality TV series.
